The fascinating world of advertisements
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the commercial world of advertisements everything new & interesting which grasps our attention is cropping up with each passing day. Just the other day round one comes across a peculiar ad of a vest where the cavalcade of a Minister is stopped midway only to pave way for a hunk who is wearing that specific garment. Although it looks very ridiculous but it seems that even our politicians & the Censor board do not have the hold over these advertisements.
On one hand where there have been massive rallies creating awareness against consumption of tobacco & its products there has been a recent spurt of ads where our own actors whom we consider as Film Stars in their own field are busy promoting the products. That has a detrimental effect on the mind of our crazy youngsters because of which 60 per cent of the population as of today is addicted to them including the fairer sex. Our Govt. seems to have turned a deaf ear to this menace & as a result the sale of cigarettes, tobacco, gutkha &pan has registered an incredible growth in the past few years. The tobacco companies have started innovative measures for promotion of their products through the commercials while the Govt. is in a deep slumber. Only in a while there are Govt. directives through commercials issued now & then prohibiting the consumption of tobacco. One seems to be in a quandary about the real intention of our Govt.
A soft drink commercial which is prevalent nowadays is where the Sun potrayed as a devil drains out the energy from kids. This might have solved the purpose of Glucon D considering the scorching days ahead in May but one does not realize that in India , we pay obeisance to Sun by our chants in the wee morning hours with some even going to the extent of bowing in front (Surya Pranam). The companies give a damn to the religious feelings of us since to them what matters is the profit & the registered growth in sale of their products in the competitive market. In this case also the lackadaisical attitude of the Censor board comes to the forefront.
In a nutshell the Govt. seems to have forgotten the good work which needs to be done for the masses as the products which need to be banned are continuing their upward trend in sales. Anything is possible in this world of advertisements where money matters and no one is really bothered about the ill-effects on the common man. It’s high time we take some initiatives before it is too late.
